HyTex Demo – General Information

The HyTex demo contains 20 documents of various text categories (linearly organized, in hypertext format, W3C specifications, a glossary, and FAQ) dealing with hypertext and language technology. We annotated and reorganized these documents according to their cohesive structure in order to enable semi-experts to quickly familiarize themselves with the text content.

There are five versions of the HyTex demo; each differs with respect to its level of text-to-hypertext conversion . We plan to conduct a user study in order to examine whether the text-to-hypertext conversion and the linking between document and glossary facilitate a better understanding of concrete academic questions than in previous texts.

On the basis of the documents mentioned above, we constructed an ontology covering hypertext and language technology. Deducing from this ontology, we developed a glossary , which is part of some of the five demo versions. We also inserted links between the documents and the glossary. On the one hand, term links within the documents point to the respective glossary entry; on the other hand, the glossary entries point to the respective term definition which is provided in the corpus.

The demo was developed during the first phase of the project. Angelika Storrer, Eva Anna Lenz, and Michael Beißwenger were responsible for the conception of the prototype.

Under the supervision of Eva Anna Lenz, the following student researchers implemented the prototype (in alphabetical order): Benjamin Birkenhake, Arne Hellmich, Jan-Frederik Maas, Maren Runte, Lars Schröder, Bianca Selzam, Sandra Wellinghoff, Amélie Zöllner-Weber.
